Isla Mujeres was one of those places we had on our Mexico bucket list from the very beginning. Early in the morning we got on a catamaran in Cancun and headed towards the island, hoping for calm water, snorkeling and the famous underwater sculptures in MUSA, especially the iconic hands beneath the surface.
The weather that day was completely unpredictable. One moment there was sunshine, turquoise water and postcard views, and a few minutes later the sea turned dark blue, heavy clouds appeared all around us and rain started pouring out of nowhere. The waves and wind were strong enough that the crew decided it wouldn’t be safe to stop for snorkeling, so instead we sailed directly to Isla Mujeres.
And honestly? It was still such a beautiful day.
Once we arrived, we had a few hours to explore on our own. We spent most of our time at Playa Norte – white sand, palm trees, warm water and the most relaxing atmosphere. Between the rain showers we managed to swim a little and just enjoy slowing down for a while.
Later we found a small beach bar for lunch with an ocean view, and of course we had to stop at Passion Fruit for an acai bowl because no trip without acai haha.
For the rest of the afternoon we walked around the town, explored colorful streets, visited small local shops and soaked in the island vibe. Everything there felt slower and more peaceful in the best way possible.
In the evening we sailed back to Cancun during sunset. After a whole day of storms and rain, the sky finally started clearing up and the light over the water looked unreal. And honestly, those are usually the days you remember the most – unexpected, emotional and absolutely worth it anyway.
