Dubai – United Arab Emirates

Dubai is a city of extremes – modern, ambitious, futuristic, and full of surprises. From the world’s tallest building to peaceful desert dunes, it’s a destination that offers both luxury and adventure in equal measure.

I visited in January, which is one of the cooler months in Dubai. During the day it was sunny and pleasant, but in the evenings it actually got chilly – so I was glad I packed a blazer and a long-sleeved shirt!

What to See & Do

Dubai has so much to offer that even a week feels short. Here are some of the places I visited and recommend:

  • Beaches – open to everyone – Jumeirah Beach, JBR, Kite Beach, La Mer, Sunset Beach.
  • Atlantis Adventure Park – water slides, lazy rivers, and thrills at the famous Atlantis The Palm.
  • Water sports – think jet skis, parasailing, and boat tours.
  • Sky View & Glass Slide – for city views with an adrenaline twist.
  • Dubai Mall & Dubai Aquarium – one of the largest malls in the world, with a massive indoor aquarium.
  • Gold Souk – explore traditional gold markets full of sparkle and bargains.
  • Dubai Frame – iconic structure offering views of both old and new Dubai.
  • Museum of the Future – futuristic architecture and exhibitions on tech, science, and innovation.
  • Burj Khalifa – the tallest building in the world. A must-see, especially at sunset.
  • Burj Al Arab – the iconic 7-star hotel shaped like a sail.
  • Dubai Marina – perfect for evening walks and dining with a view.
  • Palm Jumeirah – a man-made island shaped like a palm tree, home to luxury hotels and beach clubs.
  • Miracle Garden – a colorful flower paradise with artistic floral displays, open seasonally.
  • Global Village – a cultural theme park with food, shopping, and entertainment from around the world.

Dubai Fountain

The Dubai Fountain is one of the most magical free attractions in the city. Located just outside the Dubai Mall, the fountain shows happen every 30 minutes in the evening, combining music, lights, and water choreography. You can watch it from the promenade or take a boat ride on the lake for a closer, more unique view of the performance.

More Experiences

  • Desert Safari – An unforgettable ride through the dunes, often combined with a traditional BBQ dinner and cultural show. Read more – Safari Dubai
  • Aura Skypool – A 360° infinity pool experience located on the 50th floor, with incredible views of the city and the Palm. Read more – Aura Skypool
  • Wings of Mexico – an Instagram-famous sculpture with Burj Khalifa in the background. Quick photo stop, but totally worth it.
  • Souk Madinat – charming traditional-style market with views of Burj Al Arab, shops, cafes, and canals.

Food & Coffee

I ate at Wild & The Moon—100% vegan and super tasty. I also tried different restaurants around the city, and honestly, everything was delicious.
Wherever I went, plant-based milks were available, so grabbing a coffee or matcha was easy at almost any café.

No trip without acai! One of my favorite little pleasures was grabbing an acai bowl by the beach. Around Kite Beach and JBR, there are plenty of food trucks offering snacks, smoothies, and refreshing bowls – perfect after some sun and sea.

Getting Around

For me, the easiest way to get around was by beige taxis (official and clearly marked) or Bolt.
Another must-have app in Dubai is Careem – great for rides, food delivery, and more.
