One of my absolute favorite places on earth that I love to return to is Tenerife. This island has something for everyone! What might surprise you is that Tenerife is divided into two distinct climates. The northern part, Tenerife Norte, tends to be more foggy and rainy, though still warm. It is lush with vegetation and has higher waves – perfect for those who love nature and adventure. The island is dominated by a mountain range with the highest peak in Spain, El Pico del Teide, which is an extinct volcano. This mountain divides the island into two climatic zones – the northern, humid, and rainy, and the southern, dry, rocky, and sun-soaked.
Tenerife Sur (Southern Tenerife) is undoubtedly the tourist favorite, thanks to its sunny weather, beautiful beaches, and vibrant atmosphere. The southern part of the island is perfect for a relaxing vacation, long walks along the coastline, and enjoying the warm sun.
My Favorite Beaches on Tenerife
Some of the most stunning beaches I’ve visited on Tenerife include Playa del Duque, Playa Montaña Amarilla, Playa de Las Teresitas, and of course, the volcanic black-sand beaches scattered around the island. The beaches in the south are a true highlight – from the classic golden sands to the unique black volcanic shores. Whether you’re after a quiet spot to relax or a lively beach with water sports, Tenerife has it all.
Exploring Tenerife Sur
If you’re in the southern part of Tenerife, you can’t miss Playa de Las Américas. This vibrant town offers everything from shopping malls and small boutiques to bars, restaurants, and plenty of water sports. It’s a great place to hang out, especially if you’re looking for a mix of relaxation and entertainment. There’s always something going on, and it’s ideal for families, teenagers, or anyone looking to have a bit of fun.
For thrill-seekers, Siam Park in Costa Adeje is a must-visit. It’s one of the best water parks in the world, with a huge variety of slides and attractions for all ages. If you’re looking for a quieter experience, I recommend visiting during Siam Night (from July 2nd to August 31st). During this time, the park is open to those 16 and older, and the atmosphere is completely different. With fewer crowds and additional night-time features like fire and laser effects, glowing slides, and DJ dancing lights, it’s an unforgettable experience.

Renting a Car on Tenerife
For those who want to explore not only the southern part of the island but also more remote or scenic areas, renting a car is the best option. I rented from CiCar (Canary Island Car) and had a great experience both times. The cars were in great condition, and the staff was extremely helpful. If you want to ensure you get the car you want, I suggest booking in advance, especially during the high season when cars can be in short supply.
